Round-up: International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022

This International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December 2022, we may be celebrating all our role models an extra bit but we like to try and break boundaries, innovate and redefine what it means to live with a disability every day of the year! So, today, we are rounding up the best events, memories and conversations from this quickly ending year that have helped us lead the conversation and continue to inspire us to build an accessible future.

Keeping in tune with this year’s theme, ‘Transformative solutions for inclusive development: The role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world’, we want to address all the ways we have engendered the spirit of inclusive development — be it our partnerships, customer success stories or the addition of new WAVs in our range. So, let’s take a quick look:

Building an Accessible Future

1. Meet Dan Bentley, a Paralympic Boccia player, from Essex.

Dan loves his first-ever wheelchair accessible vehicle — the Peugeot Rifter Horizon™ from Allied Mobility, as it has added a whole new level of convenience to his busy life!

2. Kate Stanforth showed us how to make our mobility aids our own! 

Here’s to our frequent collaborator, recently named ‘Top 100 Most Influential Disabled People’, and the founder of Kate Stanforth Academy of Dance! Kate is a fierce champion of accessibility, especially in the arts world. We took great pleasure in continuing our support for her dance academy this year and caught up with her to talk about all kinds of things, from choosing a Motability scheme vehicle to accessible housing.

3. We added two new drive-from vehicles to our range.

Innovation is at the core of everything we do at Allied Mobility, so we were very delighted to announce the addition of two new drive-from wheelchair accessible vehicles this year. With an automatic tailgate and a power ramp, traveling as an upfront passenger and wheelchair driving have never been easier! Our two new drive-from WAVs: Peugeot Rifter Inspire™ and Ford Tourneo Custom Vision™ are available for a home demo.

4. Welcome to our brand new WAV Superstore in Coventry!

We recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of our WAV superstore opening in Coventry. Today, it stocks over 60 vehicles from leading manufacturers including Peugeot, Ford, and Volkswagen. Want to know more? Read all about it, book an in-store visit or check out our team of mobility advisors.

5. Keep your eyes peeled for the £2,000 voucher prize draw!

Earlier this year, we were delighted to give away a £1,000 Freedom Voucher to Marie Spiteri. She filled out the prize draw card during a visit to our Coventry WAV Superstore, and could not believe that she was the winner! Marie’s daughter Grace-Marie is a wheelchair user, and having a Peugeot Rifter Horizon™ has given her the freedom to be more independent and travel without her mum. When asked about what she was going to do with the prize money, Marie told us she wanted to take the family to sunny Florida for their first vacation in years.
