Charities Improving the Lives of Disabled People

Each Allied Mobility wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) is made for more than simply transporting you from A to B, our WAVs are made so that you can continue to live your life and do the things you love with ease and confidence.

With this year’s Disability History Month theme being Disability, Life and Death, we have been shining a spotlight on some incredible charities that align with our aim of making everyday life more accessible for disabled people.

From advocacy and community support to life-changing services, each organisation makes a real difference to the lives of disabled people across the UK.

What is Disability History Month?

Disability History Month in the UK aims to celebrate disabled people’s achievements while advocating and raising awareness about the current struggles experienced today.

Learn more about some of the brilliant disability charities that we are proud to support below.

Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR)

GBWR work to ensure that everybody, regardless of disability, can enjoy sport both on and off the court.

Believing wheelchair rugby exists to help people find, explore and show the force within them, GBWR oversee wheelchair rugby across England, Scotland and Wales, from grassroot players at local clubs to Paralympic stars.

We are very proud to be in partnership with GBWR to continue to support their mission of growing this thrilling and inclusive sport.

Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK)

DMUK work to ensure road travel is accessible for every disabled person by advocating and campaigning for the rights of disabled motorists all over the UK, whether they are a driver or passenger.

They work with local authorities, government bodies, Blue Badge fraud investigators, parking operators, service stations and disability organisations to ensure the UK’s roads are accessible for all.

Jumbulance

As specialists in group trips across the UK and Europe, The Jumbulance Trust exists to make accessible travel possible for all.

Their custom-built buses or “Jumbulances”, are designed to make travel easier for disabled people who may require specialist equipment or support to get away.

Each Jumbulance is equipped with lift access, a spacious interior for wheelchairs or beds, an accessible toilet and a galley kitchen. Every bus also has an experienced team on board to provide support.

Phab

Phab is national charity that provides social events and activities for people with and without disabilities.

They run over 140 local Phab Clubs in accessible venues throughout England and Wales where disabled and non-disabled people can come together to socialise, have fun and build lifelong friendships.
